Allergy and Asthma Services
The journey from identifying an allergy trigger to developing a treatment program is unique to each patient. This is why Dr. Mireku offers a comprehensive range of services that are adaptable to each patient’s health requirements. Below are some of the primary services we provide.
Allergies
Allergy management is an ongoing process that starts with identifying the substance responsible for your allergy symptoms. Broadly, the causes of any allergy stems from the immune system overreacting to a substance and producing chemicals to defend the body. However, the types of allergies vary considerably.
Environmental allergies are reactions to everyday substances in your surroundings. Common examples of these allergens include dust mites, mold, pollen, pet dander and cockroaches. Seasonal allergies are also referred to as hay fever, and typically come and go at different times of the year. At TexasAllergyMD we also treat skin allergies like eczema and hives, providing solutions that offer long-lasting relief.
Asthma
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition causing inflammation and narrowing of the airways, and it’s a common condition in patients of all ages. First identifying the source of the problem, Dr. Mireku diagnoses and treats asthma patients at our McKinney/Prosper center. While allergic asthma is the most prevalent form of this condition, we also treat asthma of other types such as non-allergic asthma and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
To deliver the best treatments for asthma, we use precise diagnostic tools along with understanding the lifestyle and needs of each patient. Where environmental triggers are at fault, treatment options may include inhalers, nebulizers and sublingual immunotherapy. Regular monitoring with Dr. Mireku will also ensure your asthma treatment provides the results needed for good health.
Food Allergies
With many food allergies affecting children, parents naturally want a reliable solution. During consultations in our North Texas allergy treatment center we create personalized plans to minimize the impact of allergy symptoms and improve quality of life overall. These plans are particularly important for tackling severe allergies to peanuts, tree nuts and other potentially harmful foods.
While medication can often prevent severe symptoms, we also offer immunotherapy for patients facing health concerns due to their food allergies. For example, a pediatric allergy to milk can be improved after desensitizing the immune system to this food.
Additional Food Allergy Testing & Treatment Services
- Treatments for egg allergies.
- Fish allergy diagnosis and treatment.
- Shellfish allergy management.
Allergy Testing
Allergy testing is key to prevention as it offers clarity on the issue. Patients can understand the triggers for reactions with certainty, allowing for a targeted treatment plan. The testing process takes place at our McKinney/Prosper center, with several testing options depending on the nature of the allergy.
Patch testing is a diagnostic tool that identifies problem substances via a reaction that causes contact dermatitis. This process can test for many substances in one session – metals, fragrances, medications and so on. Similarly, a skin prick test is an allergy test appropriate for dust, mold, pollen and many other allergens. At TexasAllergyMD, we also measure lung function in patients using spirometry testing for asthma.
Allergy Treatments
The right allergy treatment can significantly improve health and well-being for people suffering from the symptoms of allergies or asthma. Allergy treatments will often contain multiple components including medication, lifestyle changes, dietary improvements and so on. For example, we may recommend antihistamines for environmental allergies, while also educating patients on particular allergens.
Our McKinney/Prosper allergy treatment center is also home to some of the most innovative solutions for a range of allergies. Desensitization treatments like allergy drops offer a simple way to build tolerance to substances like dust mites and pollen. Similarly, food sublingual immunotherapy treats food allergies with convenient drops taken at home. And for allergies to mold and grass, tree and weed pollens, allergy shots are a time-tested, safe option.
